I personally save enough for certain things I want. For instance, I'm planning to buy a new car and I want to pay it off in cash. So I want to save enough to do that and pay a year's worth in insurance, brand new tires and whatever else it needs right away. After that I'll save for whatever else I come up with. But eventually, I'll be saving for retirement. So whether I end up dying an unexpected death later on...wouldn't make a difference since I can't predict my future. At least I'll know I have some money to fall back on. It all depends on what you're comfortable with! [desnudate]
